“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” – Matthew 5:16

Happy New Year! My hope is that your new year will be a bright one, filled with happiness and joy!

January 1st, of every year, feels like a new beginning. A fresh new book, just waiting to be written. There’s almost a sense of relief with a year closes; whether it was a good year, or a bad year.

“New Year, New Me” is often said and heard, along with so many resolutions (which may, or may not see their completion!). How about this year, rather than creating a “new you”, why don’t you try being a lighthouse.

Stay with me, I’ll explain!

Every single one of us, at birth, began shining away for the whole world. God was so gracious, that He gave each of us an inner light to shine out for everyone else to see. This light is easy to see in children. Their smiles that draw you in and can be contagious. Their energy that, while tiring, is a breath of fresh air. Their outlook, that sees everyone as a friend first. But, it gets harder to see as an individual grows.

Over time, for many different reasons, we start to cover our light. As we are blessed with the responsibility of adulthood, we often forget to nurture our inner light. We dull our shine. This isn’t a negative thing, by any means! This is simply part of the course.

God is asking us, to remember to show your light off to other, even if you would rather keep is shielded and protected. Let your light shine! There’s only one like it, and it’s YOURS!

You don’t need a New You.. You need to be a lighthouse! Share a smile with others, send a letter through the mail to someone you haven’t spoken to in a while, volunteer with a local charity or school. There are times when other people’s lives feel dark and lonely. Be their light.

Through out the ages, people have been looking for lights to guide them. To show them where to go, to keep them safe. There is already a lot of darkness in the world, what we’re all looking for is the inviting light of others.
